Magi Mitchell
I am Scottish but I have also spent some time in Canada and, recently, lived in the Netherlands. I have now returned to my native Scotland and am setting up my practice in Edinburgh.
I originally trained as a physiotherapist, working in a variety of clinical settings both in private practice and within the healthcare systems of the United Kingdom and Canada.
Working as a physiotherapist, I would often notice a close link between my patients’ physical problems and their level of psychological distress. My growing interest in this link led me to pursue further training in counselling and psychotherapy and, in 2003, I completed a certificate in counselling skills. In 2007, I also completed work on a 2-year advanced diploma in psychotherapeutic counselling.
I use the person-centred approach to counselling in my work with clients. I believe that each individual is essentially an expert on themselves and that each of us has the power within us to heal, grow, and find our own answers. My job as a counsellor is to help my client find those answers. This involves fostering a nurturing relationship using my skills and knowledge to be alongside my client, helping them to explore their issues, discover more about themselves, and identify their own unique solutions.
I work primarily in Edinburgh.
